Motivational Interviewing Free Webinar videos

Here’s a recording of the free webinar Coaching for Wellbeing with Motivational Interviewing presented by Chris Johnstone on 20th May 2019. It introduces the approach of Motivational Interviewing, demonstrating some key elements of this, and also introducing the online course Coaching For Wellbeing with Motivational Interviewing featuring six recorded webinars and an accompanying online resource featuring additional resources. We’re running the live webinar based version of the course again this year (2020), introduced by a free webinar on 20th May, and the six-week course starting on Wednesday 3rd June 2020. Part 1 – What is Motivational Interviewing?

Part 2 – The Stages of Change

Here’s part 2 (under 10 mins) introducing the helpful background framework of the Stages of Change model.

Part 3 – The Four Process Framework for Motivational Interviewing


Here’s part 3 (5 mins) describing the four process framework introduced in the third edition of Miller and Rollnick’s core text Motivational Interviewing.

Part 4 – See Resilience as a Signal


Here’s part 4 (under 9 mins) introducing a relational understanding of resistance, and inviting us to view it as a signal that we might be out of step with our client.

Part 5 – The Spirit of Motivational Interviewing

Here’s part 5 (4 mins) introducing the spirit of motivational interviewing, with is collaborative and evocative.

Part 6 – Drawing out Change Talk

Here’s part 6 (about 5 mins) which describes ways of drawing out change talk, a central practice of motivational interviewing.

Part 7 – The Readiness Ruler and the six-week course

This last part (under 6 mins) introduces the readiness ruler as a way of drawing out change talk, and ends by introducing the six-week course Coaching for Wellbeing with Motivational Interviewing that we’re running again from June 3rd 2020 (with an early bird discount if booked by 27th May 2020).
